гл.Русский глагол топить относится как к одушевленным, так и к неодушевленным предметам. В английском языке эти две категории существительных передаются разными словами.1. to sink — топить, затопить, утопить, погружать, понижать ( относится только к неодушевленным существительным): to sink a ship (boat) — затопить корабль (лодку)/потопить корабль (лодку); to sink a test tube in the retort — погружать пробирку в колбу The enemy sank Ihree ships last night. — Противник вчера ночью потопил три корабля.
